Zero Motorcycles may not be the household name that Tesla is, but in bike circles it has some heft. Focusing solely on electric bikes, the company was founded in 2006 and now has a range of six models. At the one end of the scale there are city commuters; at the other, off-road ready track bikes.
Total range is up to around 200 miles, though it's a trade-off between weight and how many of Zero's modular batteries you opt to carry. The sealed, maintenance-free powertrain – or Z-Force in Zero's terminology – delivers its 116 lb-ft. of torque from the get-go.
They're high-tech, too, with an app for iOS and Android that, over Bluetooth, allows riders to tweak settings for power, regenerative braking, and more. It also opens the door to firmware updates, reducing even further the need to take the Zero bike to the local dealership.
