Xperia XZ4 Could Be The First Snapdragon 855 Phone

Sony isn't exactly known to be fast in adopting the latest in smartphone trends. It has clung to its cold, boxy design for years and, to date, only has one dual camera phone. That might be changing next year with the arrival of the Xperia XZ4, which might be Sony's most daring ever. Depending on when it does announce it, it could also be one of if not the first smartphones running on the fresh new Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.

It's pretty much expected that next year's flagships would run on the Snapdragon 855 but, as mentioned, Sony tends to lag behind its peers. It could have stuck with a Snapdragon 845 for the Xperia XZ4 and only switched in an Xperia XZ4 Premium model. Or even an Xperia XZ5 in late 2019.

Qualcomm is still keeping the exact features and performance of the Snapdragon 855 under wraps but, suffice it to say, it's bringing along features like 5G support, Computer Vision, and more. Unfortunately, based on Ice universe' leak, the Xperia XZ4 won't take advantage of ultrasonic fingerprint sensor support and will, instead, still have a side-mounted scanner.

The rest of those leaked specs match up with what you'd expect from an early 2019 high-end phone. That includes 6 GB of RAM, 64 or 256 GB of storage, a 6.55-inch 21:9 Full HD+ screen, and a 3,900 mAh battery. There's also a 3.5 mm headphone jack, thankfully.

Ice universe also confirms that there will be three cameras on the Xperia XZ4's back. Other than noting that the main camera will have a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and OIS, the leak source is pretty much mum on features.
