Xperia XZ Premium Is One Of The Toughest Cookies

Sony makes classy looking smartphones, although it has hung on to that look far too long. They also make very waterproof smartphones, being one of the first manufacturers to flaunt high IP ratings. They don't, however, make very durable ones, or at least not by JerrryRigEverything's standards. That seems to have finally changed with the Xperia XZ Premium, the company's latest, greatest, most expensive, and, fortunately, most durable flagship to date.

Let's jump on the details immediately. The Xperia XZ Premium passes Zack Nelson's triple threat tests with flying colors. Almost. As far as the still practically useless burn test, the Xperia XZ Premium's one of a kind 4K HDR LCD screen performs like any other LCD screen, burning in 10 seconds but eventually recovering.

The glass on the front and back will protect the smartphone from keys, coins, and most sharp objects in your bag or pocket, cutters and blades. As long as they're not glass or diamond cutters, that is. The dual front facing speakers might still be torn, but they won't come off so easily. The plastic sides, though, do scratch, which could mar the otherwise pristine visage of the phone.

As for the fan favorite bend test, Nelson had a bit of worry with the Xperia XZ Premium, considering how its predecessors didn't exactly fare well. Those fears, however, were largely unfounded as the Xperia XZ Premium neither bent, nor cracked, nor broke. It has earned its place in JerryRigEverything's hall of fame

The Xperia XZ Premium would almost be perfect if not or a few nitpicks, some larger than others. The US model yet again misses out on the fingerprint scanner and Sony doesn't include a way for users to choose to run the display at its max resolution, at their own risk of course. But the biggest wart on this phone's face is its price tag, which remains one of the highest so far.
