Volkswagen Arteon Gallery

Volkswagen is edging into the territory high-end stablemate Audi might normally be expected to fill, revealing the new VW Arteon today. Dubbed a "premium four-door coupe", the Arteon will sit above VW's Passat, positioned more of a luxury Gran Turismo than the regular sedan. That means swoopier styling and an all-new grille design.

On the inside, the lengthy wheelbase adds up to a sizable cabin. There's space for five, as well as a new Adaptive Cruise Control system with GPS speed adjustment, smart headlamps that use GPS to figure out when to turn for corners before the steering wheel has even moved, and a new Emergency Assist system that can slow the car and guide it into the nearside line should the driver be incapacitated.

If it looks familiar, mind, it's because the Arteon is based on a previous VW concept. The Sport Coupe Concept GTE was shown off two years ago at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show, and billed at the time as a sign of a future VW production model. Now, come mid-June, sales of the Arteon will kick off in Europe.
