Transformers TCG Launched: Our First Impressions
We've got a few packs of the new Transformers Trading Card Game and we've been taking a look at what it's made of. This new card game launches the same day this article is set to go live: September 28th, 2018. At that time, both the basic Booster Box and Booster Packs will be made available – there'll also be an Autobots Starter Set and a Metroplex Deck in the mix.
Transformers TCG's first set of cards includes a surprisingly small amount of actual unique units. Available are 40 Character Cards and 81 Battle Cards. Each booster pack includes one of the 40 Character Cards and 7 Battle Cards. Each pack certainly includes one Character Card, but each pack might not contain a Rare Battle Card.
To play a full game, both players need a team of Character Cards – anywhere from bare minimum up to 25 stars total. Each Character card has a certain number of stars – one user cannot go over 25 stars total. Each player needs 40 or more Battle Cards to start a full game, as well.
Hasbro made this game in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast. That's the company that made the most successful CCG of all time: Magic: The Gathering. As such, it should be clear that they know the business and know what they're doing when it comes to high quality playing cards (and collectable card games).
Since this is a card game made in collaboration with a toy company, there's just as much emphasis on collecting the cards as there is on playing the game the cards are made to play. These cards are aimed not only at the CCG community, but at those hardcore (or hobby) Transformers Brand collectors of all sorts.
To attain all the cards in the first set, one must literally buy each of the different packagings of the cards. The only place you're going to get some of the cards is in the boxes – like the Autobots Starter Set, which includes special versions of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, and Red Alert. There's also a starter deck in said set that'll allow you to play from the get-go.
All of the first wave of Transformers TCG set will be available on September 28th, 2018. At that time, you'll be able to find these cards wherever card games and board games are otherwise available – you might also want to check out your local comic book shop for good measure. You might also want to start with a Autobots Starter Set if you want to get started immediately – there's a simple way to play if you don't want to play the complicated way right out the box, too. This set is available through Amazon right now for right around $20 with free shipping.
