The Outer Worlds Launch Trailer Emphasizes Player Choice
The launch of The Outer Worlds from Obsidian is right around the corner, so it's little surprise that the game got a fancy launch trailer to build up hype (or, perhaps, to tempt people who may be on the fence). Indeed, if you were already excited for The Outer Worlds, this trailer will probably just get you even more ready to become a spacefarer.
Much of this launch trailer centers around the player character and they choices we'll be able to make in the game. Obsidian itself says that The Outer Worlds features a "player-driven story," and the trailer definitely reinforces that notion. "Remember, no matter what happens out here, it'll all be your fault. Good luck," one character says, pointing out that there's a lot riding on our decisions.
Not only will players choose whether they want to walk the path of a hero or villain, but we'll also have choices when it comes to how we play the game. The information Obsidian has released so far suggests that there will be a lot of customization options when it comes to combat, with players able to use both melee weapons and firearms, the latter of which can use a variety of ammo types. Players can customize their characters further by leveling up technical skills, so if customization is something you're into, it sounds like The Outer Worlds will have it.
Backin 2018, Microsoft announced that it had acquired Obsidian Entertainment, but despite that, The Outer Worlds will be still be launching on all current-gen platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will also be getting a Nintendo Switch release, but a release date for that platform hasn't been announced yet. On PC, the game will launch as an exclusive to the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store, and the game won't appear on Steam until at least a year after launch.
That, as always, is disappointing news for those who are committed to Steam, but The Outer Worlds could very well be one of those titles that gets people to sign up for the Epic Games Store nonetheless. The Outer Worlds is out on October 25th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
