Game console controllers aren't cheap. However, you can save some money by using a PlayStation 4 or 5 controller with your Nintendo Switch, though it comes with two big caveats.
8Bitdo wireless USB adapter with controllers
The Switch won't natively accept connections outside of its own framework, but you can circumvent this with a third-party Bluetooth adapter like the 8Bitdo wireless USB adapter 2.

Also, any advanced features in the controller, such as haptic feedback, the microphone, or the touchpad, will be disabled. Fortunately, the gyro controls should still work.
Nintendo Switch dock and Joy-Cons
To connect the PS4 or PS5 controller, turn on your Switch console and plug the wireless adapter into one of the dock's USB slots. Open the System Settings and click on Controllers.

Set Pro Controller Wired Communications to On. Press the pairing button on the side of your wireless adapter, then press and hold the PS and Share buttons on your controller.
Flashing PS5 controller
Once the controller and the adapter stop flashing, they should be paired. Remember that you can't use the PlayStation controller to wake the Switch from sleep mode.
