Why Your iPhone's Weather App Keeps Getting The Forecast Wrong
By QUENTYN KENNEMER
Despite our modern technology, the weather remains an unpredictable beast. Many use their iPhones' built-in Weather app to check the forecast, but it's not always accurate.
Weather forecasts are based on simulation models, which use historical data to predict temperature and humidity, precipitation, wind patterns, and microclimate changes.
Your iPhone mostly pulls information from The Weather Channel for North America. However, it also uses other sources for its meteorological forecast predictions.
While Forecast Watch reports that The Weather Channel is the most accurate, iPhone using its data and data from other sources for its reports can lead to false information.
Another reason you may be getting incorrect reports, especially for those in areas sensitive to microclimate changes, is that it uses a general location instead of a precise one.
You can change this by entering Settings, "Weather," and "Location." Under "Allow Location Access," select "While Using the App or Widgets" and toggle on "Precise Location."
Another solution is to use a different weather app. The Weather Channel and Accuweather apps are highly rated, though both have been criticized for using a number of ads.
