This DIY Windshield Wiper Fluid Recipe Is A Massive Money Saver
By KETAKI BHOJNAGARWALA
Wiper fluids help ensure clean windshields and safer driving, but their cost quickly adds up over time. To save money, consider making a DIY wiper fluid using a few simple items.
Making wiper fluid is quick, easy, and super cheap. You only need 8 ounces of rubbing alcohol, a gallon of distilled water, and a tablespoon of dish soap or liquid castile soap.
You mix rubbing alcohol and water in a ratio of 8:1 since the high-alcohol content prevents the liquid from freezing during colder days, keeping the fluid usable the entire year.
First, pour rubbing alcohol into any old gallon jug, top it up with distilled water, then add the liquid soap. Optionally, add blue food coloring if you need a visual indicator.
Close the cap and swirl the jar around to mix everything well. If you live in a warmer place, you can also mix one part distilled vinegar with three parts water, then add soap.
Alternatively, you can create a wiper solution that can remove bugs, mud, and dirt, by adding half a cup of ammonia solution in a gallon of water, and then adding liquid soap.
