These 12 Classic American Muscle Cars Are Completely Worth It

SC/Rambler
A far departure from its foundation, the AMC SC/Rambler came with a 390-cubic-inch V8 engine and a four-barrel carburetor, which produced 315 horsepower.
While only 1,512 were made, one in a like-new condition recently sold on Bring a Trailer for $43,000, a relatively low price considering a new Ford Explorer costs roughly the same.
Grand National
With the turbocharger added to its 3.8-liter V6 engine, the Buick Grand National could produce a power output ranging from 235 to 275 horsepower.
The car has since become legendary. Although some have sold in auctions for nearly $100,000, others are priced far more reasonably at around $50,000.
Thunderbird Turbo
While the Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe featured only a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, its peak 190 horsepower rivaled the V8s of the era.
However, the Turbo Coupe has remained off many car enthusiasts’ radar. Excellent condition Turbo Coupes sell for around $10,000, and mint examples go for just over $20,000.
GSX
Equipped with the automaker’s 455 V8 engine, the Buick GSX was capable of up to 360 horsepower and a whopping 510 pound-foot of torque.
The GSX was a direct competitor of cars like the GTO and Trans Am, but its price has not increased as much. For $60,000, you can get a perfectly restored GSX.
GT Hawk R2
The Studebaker GT Hawk R2, with its 289-horsepower V8 engine and beautiful stylings, is extremely rare. Only 1,484 were sold in 1964.
While other Hawks in excellent condition can be found for between $10,000 and $20,000, the ultra-rare R2 commands a higher price. One R2 sold in 2023 for $56,500.
