2022 GR86
The Toyota GR86 entered its second generation for the 2022 model year, bringing with it the more powerful 2.4L engine that could produce 228 horsepower.
Consumer Reports ranked Toyota as number one in overall reliability in 2022. Although the 2022 model is in short supply, you can find a GR86 for around $24,000.
2020 Mustang GT
Launched in 2015, the sixth-generation Ford Mustang quickly established itself as a well-rounded sports car, with the 5.0L V8 GT trim standing out as a highlight.
J.D. Power suggests that the 2020 entry is a strong year, giving the car a Reliability score of 88/100. While the price can vary, a 2020 GT in good shape will be about $17,000.
2004 350Z
With a 3.5L V6 engine capable of 287 horsepower, the Nissan 350Z offered nearly as much power as the Porsche 911 of the era but at less than half the cost.
Reports say the engine is good for more than 300,000 miles, provided oil changes have been carried out regularly. The 2004 model is one of the most affordable at around $10,000.
2023 MX-5 Miata
While not the fastest cat, with only 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, the Mazda MX-5 Miata excels on backroads and corners thanks to its lightweight.
Data also shows that the Miata is hassle-free for owners, with one exceeding the 500,000 mark in 2019. A pre-owned 2023 MX-5 sells for around $26,000.
2014 TT
Although it gained a name for itself as a "hairdresser's car" or a poor man's R8, the Audi TT is one of the most reliable cars on the market.
A 2020 study by iSeeCars found it to be the most reliable used sports car, getting a 9/10 score. The 2014 — the first of the most recent generation — sells for about $19,500.
