The Duramax 3.0 Diesel Engine: What Makes It So Good?
By MIKE SHUTT
In 2019, General Motors introduced the Duramax 3.0 diesel engine in its lineup, which could outperform or match its rivals in power and towing capacity.
Several years later, in 2023, the inline-six engine saw an upgrade that pushed its capabilities to 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
GM has also massively increased the engine’s towing capabilities, increasing its maximum weight from 9,500 pounds in a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to 13,300 pounds.
Unfortunately, this engine is not available on base models of the Chevy Silverado 1500 or GMC Sierra 1500, but certain packages offer the Duramax as a standard or an option.
