The 5 Free Games On Steam Deck You Should Install
By NICHOLAS WILSON
Aperture Desk Job
Developed by Steam Deck creator Valve, “Aperture Desk Job” was designed as a tech demo and a tutorial demonstrating the console’s range of features.
The game is set in the “Portal” universe and tells a wacky, incredibly replayable story filled with multiple twists and hilarious dialogue that any “Portal” fan will enjoy.
Alien Swarm
“Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop” is a top-down co-op shooter which sees up to eight players battle endless hoards of extraterrestrial monsters.
The game runs well and feels great on the Deck thanks to its dual-analog control scheme. Despite coming out in 2017, the developers still provide updates and new content.
Halo Infinite
Many multiplayer games are incompatible with the Steam Deck due to anti-cheat implementations; luckily, “Halo Infinite” isn’t one of them.
While the game runs far from perfect on the device, Steam Deck owners are treated to a fun arena shooter that features an aim assist to help users compete against PC players.
Dota Underlords
Based on the “Dota 2” custom game “Auto Chess,” “Dota Underlords” sees players battling NPC minions and other players on an 8x8 grid with an army of heroes.
This strategic game can be played entirely with touchscreen controls and shares progress between your devices, making it an excellent fit for the Deck.
War Thunder
The realistic vehicular combat game “War Thunder” puts players in large-scale military battles, giving them numerous ways to play the game.
The game is Steam Deck Verified, meaning it won’t have any performance issues, and the console’s gyro controls even give users a leg up over PC players.
