Inside The Antique Car That Severely Burnt Jay Leno
By DAVE MCQUILLING
Comedian and former host of the “Tonight Show,” Jay Leno, received burns to the left side of his face when, according to TMZ, a 1907 White Steam Car doused him in gasoline.
In a statement to SlashGear, Leno described the incident that caused the injuries as a "gasoline fire" and said "I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet."
Steam cars have a unique design which has some similarities to a standard internal combustion engine (ICE) and some major differences.
A steam car uses a boiler to heat water, which then powers the engine's pistons (via Stanley Motor Carriage). Steam cars were incredibly fast for their time.
As with all steam-powered vehicles, high pressures are needed to make the vehicles function. If you go too far, you're basically driving around on an enormous pipe bomb.
