How Often Does Your Car Really Need New Transmission Fluid?
By CHRIS LITTLECHILD
The consequences of not topping up often enough on your car's transmission fluid can lead to issues. However, how often you need to change it depends on your specific car.
One big influence is driving habits. More intensive/frequent drivers should book this maintenance more often than those who take their vehicles out less frequently.
In general, automatic transmission vehicles should have the fluid drained every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. For harder-worked manual transmissions, it's every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.
Vehicles that are equipped with lifetime transmission may still need this maintenance. Telltale signs like the fluid color notably darkening can indicate that changes are due.
