Here's How Long A GMC Hummer EV Battery Will Probably Last
By ALEX HEVESY
GMC's new electric Hummer pickup is a beefy, crab-walking tank of an EV that’s fast and has a price tag in the low six figures. At 9,640 lbs, the Hummer weighs more than six baby humpback whales (per Car and Driver); despite its heft, the behemoth is relatively efficient regarding energy use, and extended-range models can go up to 350 miles on a charge.
What would it be like to own a Hummer EV long-term? Battery life and replacement costs are concerns when shopping for EVs, but the good news for Hummer enthusiasts is that GMC will cover batteries for ten years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. For comparison, Tesla covers the Model X and S batteries for 150,000 miles or eight years.
If you want to keep your Hummer longer, General Motors estimates that the new Ultium architecture's battery will last between 150,000 and 250,000 miles (per Car and Driver). Ultium is GMs' modular EV technology, which will power most of its electrified fleet, and is just making its way onto car lots, so time will tell how the EVs will perform in reality.
