Don't Throw Away Your Money On These 5 Smart Home Products
By ELI BECHT
Smart Fridge
Smart fridges have some benefits, such as checking the expiration date of foods or helping you plan your next shopping trip.
However, these fridges can cost thousands of dollars and have been known to experience problems such as leaks. Their hefty price tag is unjustifiable for many households.
Smart Showerhead
While having a smart showerhead with a Bluetooth speaker may be appealing, most people won’t get much out of their purchase if they don’t spend a long time bathing.
A smart showerhead costs around $130, but it doesn’t offer anything your phone can’t do. Some have also reported spotty Bluetooth connections and lower water pressure.
Smart Toaster
The smart toaster has a touchscreen that can help you achieve the perfect toast, but this isn’t something most people will need, especially for the price.
The One Revolution Cooking smart toaster costs $350. While it does have impressive features like a panini press, there are cheaper options out there that do the same thing.
Smart Fork
A smart fork is supposed to help establish healthier eating habits, vibrating if you’re eating too fast. A study published in "Appetite" found that the fork doesn’t actually help.
The company behind HAPIfork, perhaps the most famous smart fork, has since taken the fork off the market, and buying a used one can cost around $60.
Smart Water Bottle
Although smart water bottles can help you stay on track with your daily water intake by lighting up if you fall behind, there are much cheaper options.
The HidrateSpark starts at around $70 and comes with an app showing the progress you’re making on drinking water, but many might find this feature unnecessary.
