5 Car Brands You Might Not Know Are Owned By Ford
By JOWI MORALES
Aston Martin
Aston Martin has faced financial trouble throughout its history. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, Ford bought and saved the company from bankruptcy.
Ford’s ownership of Aston Martin ended in 2007 when it sold the brand to David Richards, chairman of motorsport and engineering group Prodrive.
Jaguar
In 1989, Ford purchased another British brand, Jaguar, to produce enough cars to satisfy its goal of entering the luxury car market.
While Ford helped Jaguar survive turbulent years, it wasn’t exactly a financial success. The economic crisis of the late 2000s caused Ford to sell Jaguar to Tata Motors in 2008.
Land Rover
After suffering massive losses, BMW sold the Land Rover brand to Ford in 2000. With Ford at the helm, Land Rover would see improvements to its existing model lineup.
Like Jaguar, Land Rover was sold to Tata Motors in 2008 during the economic crisis of the late 2000s. In 2013, Tata merged these two companies to create Jaguar Land Rover.
