StoreDot Startup Is Working On EV Battery That Can Charge In Five Minutes
One of the things that could revolutionize the EV world is batteries that store more power allowing cars to drive for longer distances. Another big battery improvement that could make EVs much more mainstream is the ability to charge the batteries inside the EV much faster. Right now, it can take up to 24 hours to completely charge a normal EV battery.
An Israeli startup company called StoreDot is currently working on a new EV battery that the company claims could be completely recharged in only five minutes. If that sounds farfetched, consider that the company has already created a smartphone battery that recharge in a minute. That smartphone battery is known as the FlashBattery.
The company has raised $66 million to bring its FlashBatteyr tech to the EV market. The battery that the company is developing for the automotive market is described a as sponge able to soak up electricity. It uses peptides inside the battery that are converted to energy-storing nanotubes that the company calls Nanodots.
Each battery would have around 7,000 Nanodots giving a battery with long driving range and the ability to charge very quickly. StoreDot has offered no information on when its new EV battery might be ready for the market.
