Sony Hints At Backwards Compatibility For All PS3 Versions In The Future
Since the Emotion Engine was phased out of the PS3 there hasn't been much hope in the way of backwards compatibility with older PS2 titles. Sure, they have a software emulation solution, but it's dodgy at best. Thanks to a recent interview, we know that Sony is still thinking hard about backwards compatibility.
In the latest Electronic Gaming Monthly you'll find an interview with PlayStation Network director Eric Lempell. He doesn't go into great detail, but he does say that it may be possible in the future for all PS3 versions to have backwards compatibility.
At least we know that they're thinking about it, and probably working on a fix. My launch PS2 has done great, but I'd like to be able to retire it when I finally take the plunge (soon) and pick up a PS3. I still like to bust out Guitar Hero now and then, and I really don't want to mess with hooking up a console just to play a few games now and then.
