Slender Scanner Reviewed - Docupen R800
Remember puck-style scanners? Back in the days when flatbeds were just too costly for occasional home use, manufacturers attempted to satisfy the market with handheld scanners that looked a little like barcode readers and required piecing together full pages on the computer having scanned them in strips. The results often looked like you'd shredded the document and then taped it back together. As flatbeds came down in price, handhelds slowly disappeared; that is, until Docupen introduced their page-width portable scanner, first in monochrome versions and now supporting full, 24-bit colour.
The R800 is slender bar which you slowly drag down a page, scanning as it goes, and storing the results to a microSD card. Having removable storage is a big improvement on the fixed-capacity models the company produced previously, but has performance improved too? Geekzone took a look at this portable marvel; check out their review.
