SGDQ 2018's Big Speedrun Event Just Raised A Crazy Amount Of Cash

Another Games Done Quick marathon has come to an end, and like many of the organization's recent marathons, Summer Games Done Quick 2018 managed to set a pretty impressive record by the time everything was said and done. When all of the donations were counted up, Summer Games Done Quick 2018 managed to raise an eye-watering $2,129,894. That isn't an exact amount just yet, as there are always some donations that come in after the event ends.

Still, it's close enough to the final tally, and SGDQ 2018 managing to raise so much money is big for a few reasons. The first is that this is the largest amount raised by an SGDQ event ever, and on top of that, it's the first time in SGDQ's history that total donations have exceeded $2 million.

It's not the first time a Games Done Quick event has raised more than $2 million, as it's happened twice before. Awesome Games Done Quick (which is SGDQ's winter counterpart) crossed the $2 million threshold first in 2017 and again in 2018, making SGDQ 2018 the third Games Done Quick marathon to hit the $2 million mark.

Other interesting statistics can be found over on the SGDQ 2018 donation tracker. For instance, there were 35,378 donations in all, with the average donation clocking in at $60.20. The largest single donation during the marathon was $110,260, which was the total amount raised from Twitch subscriber revenue throughout the week.

At the end of the event, which wrapped up in the early-morning hours of Sunday, July 1, Games Done Quick announced the dates and location for the next week-long marathon. Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 will be held in Rockville, Maryland from January 6 to January 13, 2019.

Before that happens, though, we have Games Done Quick Express to look forward to, which is a shorter marathon that will take place during TwitchCon later this year. Games Done Quick Express will kick off on October 26 and run through October 28, so if you've got the post-GDQ blues, you can at least take solace in the fact that the next event is just a few months away.
