Galaxy S10 Leak 'Confirms' Loss Of Major Legacy Feature
The next generation in Samsung Galaxy smartphones seems to be moving backward, not forward, with power user features. In favor of innovation and the changing of the guard, so to speak, Samsung seems to be moving away from the features that Galaxy owners have been using for over a half decade. I'm talking here, of course, of the headphone jack – and the idea that Samsung might well do away with the feature in 2019.
Samsung suggested they were all about introducing new features and innovating technology with midrange phones before hero and headline phones starting in 2019. This comment came from the head of Samsung Mobile in September of 2018. What they didn't mention implicitly was the cost.
"In the past, I brought the new technology and differentiation to the flagship model and then moved to the mid-end," said Samsung Mobile Communications CEO DJ Koh. "But I have changed my strategy from this year to bring technology and differentiation points starting from the mid-end."
It might just be that this forward-thinking strategy will reveal the lack of jack on a lesser phone first. According to Bloomberg, Samsung has at least one Samsung Galaxy S10 prototype without a headphone jack. It might also be that Samsung delivers the headphone jack on its least-of-three Galaxy S10 phones and not the other, more colorful models – along with a flat display instead of Infinity Display curves.
The three phones we're expecting from Samsung in 2019 in the Galaxy S10 line are as follows. Note that "Retro" is just a placeholder name and code for now – we'll know more about the real name soon.
Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup possibilities for 2019:
1. Galaxy S10R (Retro) $750, 5.8-inch display, flat, side-mounted fingerprint reader, 4G modem
2. Galaxy S10 $1000, 5.8-inch display, curved edges, under-display fingerprint reader, 5G modem
3. Galaxy S10 Max $1100, 6.4-inch display, curved edges, under-display fingerprint reader, 5G modem
Information about these devices comes from a wide variety of anonymous sources and insider tips. Until Samsung reveals their devices in early 2019, we won't absolutely certainly know any one fact about the phones' final forms. We're expecting right now that the Samsung Galaxy S10 event will take place on February 24th, 2019, at an event that'll be simulcast around the world – but based in Barcelona, Spain, during Mobile World Congress 2019.
