Russia's Smallest Submarine
There's something both fascinating and scary about submarines – the freedom to explore a mysterious environment, travelling in all directions, with the constant potential for getting trapped hundreds of feet beneath the surface, slowly running out of air. DIY subs, then, are always interesting – as are the people who choose to make them – and today the MAKE: blog points us in the direction of a Russian man who has built his own underwater craft to travel in the sea around St.Petersburg.

Capable of reaching four knots and making the St.Petersburg to Helsinki trip without stops, the home-made fibreglass machine is officially registered with the Russian government (albeit as a boat) and has the illustrious honour of being the country's smallest submarine.
