Robert Pattinson Confirmed To Star As Batman In 2021 Movie

Days after a leak alleged he was in final talks for the role, it has been confirmed that Robert Pattinson will star as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming The Batman movie scheduled to hit theaters in 2021. The actor, who is best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, was confirmed for the role by Warner Bros. ahead of the movie's pre-production start.

The confirmation was given to Variety, which first leaked Pattinson's potential involvement with the movie earlier this month. According to the latest report, Pattinson will be the latest actor to take on the role of Batman, which was most recently played by Ben Affleck.

Pattinson's Batman will debut in the Matt Reeves movie scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. Warner Bros. is expected to start pre-production on the film some time this summer now that the movie has its Batman. Reeves took over the role as Batman director from Affleck; his previous work includes the last two Planet of the Apes movies.

Affleck took on the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman for a total of two movies: the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice flick that premiered in 2016 and Justice League in 2017. Neither were the hit Warner Bros. was aiming for, at least not in light of the wild success Marvel has seen with its own superhero movies.

As expected, Pattinson's confirmation as the new Batman has proven controversial, with critics decrying the casting choice as unfit — as was the case with Affleck and multiple actors before him. It'll be a while before we get our first look at Pattinson in his new role, so it remains to be seen whether he can suitably handle the burden of being the Caped Crusader.
