PS3 Jailbreak Firmware Released [Video]

Hacker Geohot has released a custom firmware tool for the PS3. The new firmware is intended as a proof of concept, has been signed using a homebrew tool that takes advantage of the leaked PS3 root key, and will eventually allow for non-official firmware to be run on the console.

The hack takes us one step closer to restoring "Install Other OS" functionality on the PS3, which was stripped from the console – much to the Linux community's disgust – midway through 2010.
