Pokemon GO Earth Day Events Aim To Clean Up Litter Worldwide

This week the folks at Niantic revealed their first ever Earth Day event for Pokemon GO. This event aims to bring all the Pokemon trainers to the yard where they'll pick up all the trash on the planet. Or at least all the trash at a select number of "cleanup events" in several countries around the world.

Users will find the cleanup events for this Earth Day with Pokemon GO over at Pokemon GO Live. Niantic suggests that you attend one of these events or suggest one of your own in advance. A Google Docs NGO Suggestions form for Earth Day Clean Up is up right this minute.

"As more Trainers participate in the cleanups around the world they will unlock unique in-game rewards for the entire world." These rewards will be activated when the requisite number of Earth Day Clean Up event participants are reported to Niantic. If past events are any indication, these numbers won't be difficult to rack up.

• 1,500 Trainers: Unlock 2x catch Stardust for Ground, Water, and Grass-type Pokémon will be unlocked for 48hrs• 3,000 Trainers: Unlock 3x catch Stardust for Ground, Water, and Grass-type Pokémon for 48 hrs will be unlocked for Trainers around the world.

"Earth Day is an incredible movement and opportunity to team up with friends and neighbors to focus on making the world and our own communities healthy and sustainable," said Niantic founder and CEO John Hanke. "We're looking forward to joining Trainers around the world in their efforts to clean up and preserve the environment in support of the world's oceans and Mission Blue."

Earth Day is April 22nd, and that'll be the day Niantic starts up their engines for this Pokemon GO event as well. Locations that'll be part of the event include US, Japan, Taiwan, UK, France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Italy, "and more" – so says Niantic.

ALSO before Earth Day there's another Pokemon GO Community Day approaching. That event will take place on April 15th, 2018, from 1PM to 4PM Central Time. This event will take place at parks around your area and will feature the spawning of one massive amount of Mareep! These Mareep will have an exclusive move, not available for Mareep at any other time or place. Lures will last 3-hours at a time, and eggs will hatch at 1/4 the distance they normally hatch.
