Oppo RX17 Pro And Neo: New Phones From China, Detailed VS R17
If you're looking for daring design in a new smartphone in 2019, look toward China. Today we're looking at three new phones revealed by the folks at Oppo as they take aim at the UK for the first time ever. In the mix are the Oppo Find X (a truly powerful beast), and two editions of a device we've already seen up close and personal: Oppo RX17 Pro and RX17 Neo.
In November of 2018 we wrote our Oppo R17 Pro Review as "a speedster you can afford." This device is beautiful, what with its multicolored and color-changing back panel, three-camera array in a perfect pill shape, and a 6.4-inch display up front. This machine has the following specifications in its current Asia-bound iteration.
Oppo R17 Pro:
• Display: 6.4-inch AMOLED, 2340 x 1080
• Back Color: Fog Gradient – Radiant Mist, Emerald Green
• Cameras: 12MP w/ f1.5, 20MP w/ f2.6, 3D TOF sensor
• Front Cameras: 25MP with f2.0
• Android: Android 8.1 Oreo (with Color OS)
• SOC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
• RAM: 6GB / 8GB
• Storage: 128GB
• Battery: 3700mAh (split into two 1850mAh cells)
The differences between the R17 Pro and the RX17 Pro are few and far between. I've placed stars near the places where the specifications differ. The only discernible difference is in the availability of an 8GB RAM edition in the original, but only 6GB for the RX17. Also the name is different – but only by a letter.
Oppo RX17 Pro:
• Display: 6.4-inch AMOLED, 2340 x 1080
• Back Color: Fog Gradient – Radiant Mist, Emerald Green
• Cameras: 12MP w/ f1.5, 20MP w/ f2.6, 3D TOF sensor
• Front Cameras: 25MP with f2.0
• Android: Android 8.1 Oreo (with Color OS)
• SOC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
• RAM: 6GB *
• Storage: 128GB
• Battery: 3700mAh (split into two 1850mAh cells)
The RX17 Neo has a slightly larger display (but no more pixels), new color backside options, and a different set of cameras on its back. This device has no TOF sensor on its back, and uses a slightly less powerful processor – the Snapdragon 660 instead of 710. This device also sports expandable data storage via a microSD card slot-compatible dual-SIM tray. The RAM here is 4GB instead of 6 or 8, and the battery is just 3500mAh.
Oppo RX17 Neo:
• Display: 6.41-inch AMOLED, 2340 x 1080 *
• Back Color: Mocha Red, Astral Blue *
• Cameras: 16MP w/ f1.75, 2MP w/ f2.4 *
• Front Cameras: 25MP with f2.0
• Android: Android 8.1 Oreo (with Color OS)
• SOC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 *
• RAM: 4GB *
• Storage: 128GB (with expandable storage via microSD)
• Battery: 3500mAh *
All three of the above devices feature in-display fingerprint sensors. Then there's the monstrous Oppo Find X, which we've detailed in our Oppo Find X Review from all the way back in September of 2018. It's radical, but not quite the true competitor we expected. If you're looking for a sliding display phone hero with which one could do battle, head over to our Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Review and get the full picture.
The UK reveal of the last three phones in this article – shown in the UK for the first time this week – are as follows. The Oppo RX17 Neo will be the cheapest of the bunch at 319 GBP. The RX17 Pro will cost users 549 GBP, and the Oppo Find X will cost a cool 799 GBP. Each of the three will be available in the UK from locations like Carphone Warehouse immediately on pre-order, then with general availability starting on February 13th.
