Open Your Eyes To Iris-Recognition Security

Let's be honest, fingerprint scanning was cool a decade ago, but now when you can buy a cheap mouse with a biometric strip for your favourite digits in its back you know a technology has lost all of its kudos points.  Which leaves us with a big "cool encryption" hole, and along come Irikon with their iris-reading flash memory drive to fill it.

Using the same technology as found in their USB Authentication Device (shown above) and door lock(below), the Irikon device can store up to 20 different iris templates (stored with 256-bit encryption) that are captured by looking directly into the built-in camera.  It works from up to 6cm away and can recognise an approved iris in two seconds.

Available in three sizes – 1GB, 2GB and 4GB – makers Rehoboth Tech claim a false-acceptance rate (i.e. the number of times the device gets it wrong and lets the wrong person access your files) of 1 in 12,000.
