Octospot Dive Camera Is Waterproof To 656-Feet
Action cameras are numerous these days and many of them, like the GoPro, need a case around them if you plan to get them wet. A new dive camera called the Octospot has debuted on Kickstarter and it is specifically designed as an action camera for divers. The big feature that divers will want to know is that the camera is waterproof to 656-feet and it needs no extra casing to protect it at those depths.
The camera is able to overlay dive log data on the video and the camera has pressure controlled automatic white balance. The battery is good for two hours of use per charge. The camera interface is designed to be very easy to use and operable when wearing gloves. Video resolution is up to 4K and the camera can shoot 12MP still shots.
If you have to change settings while under water, the camera has magnetic switch buttons and vibration feedback. The dive mask mount is universal and will fit all masks. In addition to being waterproof, the Octospot is also shock resistant and designed for rough use. Electronic image stabilization helps keep video smooth and remove jitter.
The camera has thermoinsulating foam inside to protect the electronics from temperatures and the battery is a 1700 mAh unit. A small display on the rear of the camera gives easy access to depth, temperature, battery, and record mode. The Octospot is on Kickstarter now seeking $80,000 and has raised over $93,000 as of writing with 29 days to go. The Super Early Bird package has a few units left as of writing for $349 including the camera, mask mount, and universal mount. Delivery is expected in January 2017. A special kit with a third person viewer is available for $429 or more.
