Nintendo Switch Labo Vehicle Kit Turns Into A Car, Plane, Sub
One of the biggest hits that came from the Switch isn't exactly a game. Sure, it's playful but it's also educational. The Nintendo Labo cardboard platform has opened up new worlds and new inventions, showing what can be done with simple materials and a pinch of creativity. Now Nintendo is expanding that world further with its third Toy-Con kit, the Vehicle Kit. With some simple cutouts and a Switch, you can have a racing truck, an old-school plane, and even a submarine.
It seems that Nintendo Labo Kits are becoming more and more specialized. The very first kit, the Variety Kit, allows users to create almost anything from musical instruments to fishing rods. The second, the Robot Kit, makes Pacific Rim dreams come true.
With Vehicle Kit, Nintendo is giving adventurers, explorers, and racing fans their turn. The kit includes the boards and patterns to form controls for cars, planes, and submarines. It all depends on where you insert your Joy-con powered key into. Those will also launch specific games, though it's unknown if they can actually hook into existing games, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
It will be interesting to see what "out of the box" inventions can be created from these more specialized parts. Nintendo regularly holds Creators contests but those usually involve Variety Kit parts. The Robot Kit, however, has made an appearance in less creative but still entertaining uses, like in a Jimmy Fallon Nintendo Switch band.
The Nintendo Switch Labo Toy-Con Vehicle Kit will go on sale September 14. It will retail for $69.99, which is the same price as the Variety Kit but cheaper than the $79.99 Robot Kit.
