Nintendo Switch eShop and News app previewed in new video

Ever since the Switch was first revealed, we've caught glimpses of the main menu here and there, but today we're getting out best look yet. The Switch's main menu is on display in a new video that previews the console's News app and eShop, giving players a quick crash course in what to expect before the console launches on Friday.

In truth, there isn't a whole lot that's new if you've ever owned a Wii, Wii U, or 3DS. Perhaps the biggest change in the jump to the Switch is that the News app will instantly populate the latest Nintendo updates along the left side of the screen when you first boot it up.

Any News items that are about games or sales will have a link that leads directly to the eShop, something we also see in the video. Though the look we get is brief, it's pretty clear that Nintendo has revamped the look and feel of the eShop for the launch of the Switch.

To put a finer point on it: the Switch's eShop looks much easier to navigate than what we had on the Wii U. Obviously this may change when things like the Virtual Console are added and the eShop has more games on offer, but at least at launch, it seems like the eShop will have a clean and relatively easy to navigate interface.

After a few months of waiting, the Nintendo Switch is finally scheduled to launch on Friday. There's a lot of hype surrounding the console at the moment, though some of the reviews we're seeing today seem to think that the console isn't living up to its full potential at launch.
