Nintendo Slashes New Wii Package To $150; Outs "Nintendo Selects" Game Range
Nintendo may have the Wii replacement coming next year – tipped to be the Wii 2 "Stream" – but it still has to sell the first-gen console if it wants to turn its dire 2010 financial performance around. In that spirit the company has slashed the suggested retail price of the Wii to $149.99, and as of May 15 will be bundling Mario Kart along with a Wii Wheel accessory.
That will replace the previous bundled titles, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. The console will be available in black or white – don't worry, the Wii Wheel and Wiimote will match too – and the new black Wii Wheel will also be available separately, priced at $9.99.
Meanwhile, on the same date Nintendo will also launch "Nintendo Selects", a range of $19.99 Wii games at cut-down pricing. The initial titles will include The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and – for the first time as a standalone title – Wii Sports.
