Did you know there was a new Dark Crystal movie coming out soon? Earlier today, I had no idea. Then I saw there was a Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance trailer out, and bang! This series is coming to Netflix on August 30th, 2019. When we get there, if you've not already watched the original, I suggest you'll have done so. The original was a Jim Henson and Frank Oz masterpiece, done with muppet-era live action filming and a true 80's attitude toward adventure and fantasy storytelling.

The new version has more famous voice actors than you'll be able to process. You'll find Nathalie Emmanuel, Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Donna Kimball as the keeper of secrets, Aughra. That epic role was originally voice by Frank Oz (aka Yoda) himself – watch above and see if he's done justice. (Spoiler alert: Donna Kimball is fantastic.)

Also voicing characters in this series are Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Natalie Dormer, Toby Jones, Alicia Vikander, and Mark Strong. They'll apparently be voicing the good team – the Gelfings.

The bad guys – the Skeksis – will be voiced by the following list of voice actors: Harvey Fierstein, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg, Mark Hamill, and Andy Samberg. If it wasn't already clear, this series must have cost Netflix a PRETTY PENNY.

The creators of this program are Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. On the author crew for this show are Louis Leterrier, Lisa Henson, and Halle Stanford. Have a peek at the earliest visions of this show in the first teaser trailer released by Netflix below – released in May of 2017.

This series means business. And right at the tail end of Game of Thrones, with fantasy and adventure-loving viewers looking for something new to follow – it's perfect. The timing couldn't be better.
