Mystery Science Theater 3000 Will Hit Twitch In Six-Day Mega Marathon
It would seem that Twitch marathons of classic shows are the hot new thing. What originally began with a marathon of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross later led to marathons for both Power Rangers and Mister Roger's Neighborhood. Today Twitch announced its next marathon, and if you happen to be a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, this is definitely one you'll want to watch.
On June 26, Twitch will kick off a six-day marathon of classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes. Previous marathons were shown either in celebration or promotion of something – for instance, the Mister Roger's Neighborhood marathon was broadcast to raise money for PBS, while the Power Rangers marathon promoted the new movie that launched earlier this year. The same mentality applies to this MST3K marathon, as this is being broacast to celebrate the launch of Shout! Factory TV's Twitch channel.
In all, there will be 38 episodes of MST3K to watch during this six-day marathon. Those who already know the joys of MST3K are likely already marking their calendars, but if you're unfamiliar with the show, all you need to know is that we watch along as an unfortunate human and his two robot companions sit through awful B-movies from the past, cracking jokes the entire time.
As always, Twitch will offer people who subscribe to Shout! Factory TV's channel a special collection of emotes to use anywhere on the site. Twitch also promises that it will have "an assortment of vintage educational shorts and other bonus content," to play between each episode of the show. The whole thing kicks off at 11 AM Pacific time and ends on July 3, giving us nearly a full week of MST3K goodness.
While the marathon is running, expect it to be one of most popular streams on Twitch. Previous marathons have been immensely successful, so don't be surprised to see another marathon crop up shortly after Mystery Science Theater 3000 wraps up its own. Will you be watching?
