Monster Hunter Movie Trailer Leak Looks Like Mad Max With Dragons
For better or worse, Capcom's Monster Hunter series is going to make the jump to the silver screen next year. We haven't seen much from the movie aside from a few stills, but today, we're getting our first real glimpse at it thanks to a leaked trailer. The trailer amounts to nothing more than a teaser, but it does serve up shots of some of the main cast members and a couple of the monsters that will feature in the movie.
One of those monsters is none other than Diablos, a massive horned dragon that lives under the sand and serves as a pretty formidable foe in Monster Hunter World. It seems that a Rathalos appears briefly at the end of the trailer, but since this is a smartphone recording of a movie screen, it's hard to say for sure.
We also get some quick glimpses of the film's principal cast, namely Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa, the latter of whom plays one of the titular Monster Hunters. Aside from those quick takes, though, the trailer doesn't give much about the movie away, so we'll just have to kick our feet up and wait for a more substantial trailer before we can learn more.
Monster Hunter, which is scheduled to release on September 4th, 2020, is directed, written, and produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, who helmed most of the Resident Evil movies. Monster Hunter will focus on a group of United Nations soldiers (led by Jovovich) who fall through a portal and wind up in a world where humans go to bat with giant creatures, so we're not really expecting the movie to follow the narratives of any of the games all that closely.
At this point, it's hard to tell if this movie will sink or swim on release, but given the history of video game adaptations in cinema, it's probably best to temper your expectations while we wait to see more. We'll keep an eye out for more from this upcoming Monster Hunter flick, but for now head down to the comments section and tell us what you think of this leaked trailer.
