McLaren 600LT Spider Gallery
McLaren's Longtail has struck again, and the fifth car in the automaker's history to wear that badge is no joke. The new McLaren 600LT Spider starts from the 600LT Coupe and then peels back the roof, replacing it with a three-piece retractable hardtop. Despite that, it's only 110 pounds heavier.
Designed for convertible purposes from the outset, the 600LT Spider didn't need any changes or reinforcement to its carbon fiber architecture despite losing the roof. What it delivers is a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds – matching the coupe – from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. 592 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque are not to be laughed at, and nor is the 201 mph top speed with the roof up, or 196 mph with it down.
Inside, you can go as spartan and lightweight as you want, even deleting the HVAC and audio systems. The McLaren Senna's ultra-light sports seats are options too, and there's plenty of scope for adding in lashings of carbon fiber. Availability will be limited, McLaren says, with pricing kicking off at $256,500.
