Marvel Has Talked About A Standalone 'Black Widow' Movie
Black Widow won favor among audiences with her role in The Avengers, and many have asked whether a standalone movie featuring her will come about. The answer to that is still who knows. However, at least for the hopefuls out there, the prospect is looking promising in light of a recent interview with actress Scarlett Johansson, who said she has talked to Marvel Studio's President Kevin Feige about it. While there's no confirmation that it will become a reality, there are more than just fans interested in seeing it happen.
The information comes from an interview she had with Collider, in which she discussed her character and, more importantly, whether we'll ever be seeing her as the star in a standalone Black Widow flick. She didn't have too much to say on that topic, excepting that she has spoken to Marvel president Feige about it:
I've spoken to Kevin about it. I mean, of course, of course we've had that conversation before, and I think Kevin would also like to see a standalone film. I think I can speak for him and say that. That's all, really. Right now I think this character is used well in this part of the universe, but I think that Kevin—I mean, we've talked about it and we both share similar vision for what could be a standalone series.
Part of the hesitancy was Marvel's lack of assurance about how audiences would respond to the Black Widow character — a worry that had been put to rest with Johansson's successful role in The Avengers and expanded presence in the Marvel universe a la Captain America: The Winter Solider.
