LG V40 Specs Leak Confirm Five Cameras

LG's smartphone presence at IFA was perhaps underwhelming and disappointing. It did already pre-announce the mid-range LG G7 Fit and its first Android One phone, the G7 One. In fact, it didn't make much noise as far as its mobile business goes, preferring to focus on its other AI-enabled products. But, as they say, good things come to those who wait, or at least those who can wait for another month. And that is if your idea of "good things" comes in the form of a smartphone with more cameras than any other smartphone.

It's still not the almost absurd number (nine) that Light wants to bring to a smartphone, but some might consider five cameras already absurd. That's actually one more than what Huawei was boasting about in its Huawei P20 Pro. Thankfully, that doesn't mean there are four camera lenses on the back of the LG V40.

According to the sheet acquired by Android Authority, the LG V40 will have three cameras on its back: 12 megapixel f/1.5, 16 megapixel f/1.9 wide-angle, and 12 megapixel f/2.4 2x optical zoom. The front will have two, an 8 megapixel and 5 megapixel duo, with no mention of special characteristics. This pretty much confirms the renders that OnLeaks and SlashLeaks put out last week. It also probably explains the adoption of the notch. Somewhat.

The rest of the specs are pretty much what you'd expect from a late 2018 flagship, such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 6 GB RAM, and a 3,300 mAh battery. The V40 will thankfully inherit the G7 ThinQ's Boombox speaker, something the LG V35 ThinQ left out.

As for the date, nothing specific other than an early October announcement. While LG did manage to steer clear of the IFA flood, which turned out to be more like a trickle, it will instead have to battle for attention against the Huawei Mate 20 (which may have five cameras as well), the Google Pixel 3, and perhaps the OnePlus 6T.
