Lenovo IdeaPad K1 Android Tablet Coming Late June Or Early July
You might recall back on June 16 we said that the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet had been confirmed for a July launch. Lenovo has now confirmed via an update to its affiliate network in the US that the K1 could be coming a bit earlier than we though. Lenovo lists the official launch for the K1 as late June or early July. That would put the launch of the Android tablet any day now since this is the last week of June.
The affiliate network tip also shows that a new ThinkPad tablet will launch on June 28. ThinkPad is the business-focused line so this is likely to be the Windows 7 tablet we have heard about in the past. The K1 Android tablet will use a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The processor under the hood will be a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra II dual core. The exact version of Android is unknown. We know it will be Honeycomb, but we aren't sure if we will see 3.0 or the newer 3.1 update.
The tablet is thought to sell for around $500. That price will put the tablet out of contention I think. There are a number of Android tablets with similar hardware selling at the roughly $500 price and most of them are not selling well. We need to see vastly superior software or hardware along with a lower price before consumers start buying Android tablets in droves.
