Kingston 1TB And 2TB USB Sticks Start Shipping [Update: Price]

That fated day has arrived. That day when you can fit as much as 2 TB of data in your pocket. If you had large pockets, you could have probably still fit a slim external hard drive, but that has nothing on what Kingston has just unveiled. Yes, Kingston has USB flash drives in 1 or even 2 TB capacities, ensuring that all your data, photos, and videos can be within reach, even when the Internet, and therefore the cloud, isn't.

OK, maybe calling them USB "sticks" might be a bit of a misnomer in this case. They're more like rectangular rods or pegs than your average USB flash drive. The "sticks" measure 75.18 mm x 27 mm x 21.02 mm. They're more on the thick, square side so it'll probably put a bulge in your pocket. But that's the figurative price you have to pay for that much storage.

With the 2 TB USB flash drive, you can store 70 hours worth of 4K videos. Of course, that's not an open invitation to "acquire" those 4K videos from somewhere. Kingston is positioning these two sticks as the ultimate portable storage solution for tech enthusiasts and professionals, especially those that need to work with massive media files.

The USB flash drives use USB 3.1 Gen 1 but can fall back to USB 2.0 when necessary. That immediately makes them compatible with a wide array of devices running Windows from versions 8.1 to 10, macOS 10.9 and later, Linux running kernel 2.6 or later, and even Chrome OS.

The USB sticks come in a zinc-alloy casing for shock-resistance but, as always, Kingston is providing a 5-year warranty and free technical support. Prices for the DTUGT/1TB and DTUGT/2TB have still to be revealed, but Kingston says it has started shipping them already.

UPDATE: According to the product page at Amazon, the Kingston 2TB DataTraveler Ultimate GT USB flash drive is priced at $2,273 and will be in stock on March 8th
