Jim Henson Co. And Disney Team For New Earth To Ned Puppet Alien Show
At some point, after it goes live on November 12, Disney+ will launch a new exclusive show called Earth to Ned that features a Jim Henson alien puppet who interviews celebrities, a new report claims. The show is said to be the result of a deal between Disney and Jim Henson Co., filling the void left by the scrapped The Muppets revival that had been planned for Disney+.
The new deal involves a straight-to-series order from Disney, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Viewers will be entertained by a blue alien named Ned who interviews various celebrities in a comedic format alongside Lieutenant Cornelius, an Earth scout obsessed with humanity's pop culture.
Earth to Ned will be comprised of 30-minute episodes and they will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+, according to the report. It's unclear how many episodes Disney ordered for the first season and when the company plans to debut the series on its streaming service.
Disney has previously planned to launch a new The Muppets series on its Disney+ streaming platform, but the show was dropped early last month after its creators allegedly quit over creative differences. The series had reportedly been in the works for months before an executive change introduced a new 'vision' for the revival, ultimately resulting in the alleged rift.
The Disney+ streaming service will launch on November 12 for $6.99/month with a slightly more expensive bundle option also offered. The platform will bring Disney's established body of work, as well as a number of new shows and movies, including Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
