Intel i7, i9 Core X-Series Release Dates And Specs
The Intel Core X-Series processors were been revealed by Intel this morning in one big bunch. Included is the entire unlocked Intel Core X-Series i-family. This includes i5, i7, and i9, the most impressive of which is the Extreme Edition Intel Core i9-7980XE. These processors were announced first this week at Computex 2017 as "the most powerful, scalable and accessible high-end desktop platform offered by Intel."
Interesting here is Intel's mention of VR – this thereby placing VR out in the open as a target for the next generation in computer developers. The Intel Core X-series processor family was described as such by Intel. The company said that these chips were "designed to deliver the performance needed to meet extreme computing demands for virtual reality (VR), content creation, gaming and overclocking."
Above you'll find a chart detailing each of the new bits of processor hardware glory. The chart above shows all the new Intel Core i7 and i5 processors. Below is a chart detailing all the new Core i9 processors.
These are all part of the Core X-Series processor family, and will be coming to stores soon as such. Save the 4- to 10-core Intel Core X-series processors, which are already on store shelves as of this week.
The X-series processor family has chips that are up to 18 cores and 36 threads large. These chips roll with up to 68 PCIe 3.0 lanes, allowing their users to extend their system in a variety of ways. These X-series processors can work with up to four discrete GFX cards, Thunderbolt 3, and SSDs aplenty.
These new X-Series chips have up to 44 lanes of PCIe 3.0 directly connected to the CPU as well as up to 24 connected to the PCH. Inside is newly-improved Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 (select SKUs) for up to 2-core/4-thread workloads. Intel Optane memory is now supported, and smart cache hierarchy has been rebalanced.
Above you'll find another chart – this one organized by Intel slightly different from what's above. It's a lot of the same information spread out a bit differently – one might be easier to read than the other. Choose your destiny as you see fit.
The most beastly of these is the Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition processor featuring 18 cores and 36 threads. This collection uses Intel Hyper-Threading tech and is entirely unlocked for full performance tuning. They have up to 4 channel DDR4-2666 memory support as well as support for the 2.0 revision of Intel Extreme Memory Profile for DDR4.
While the 4- to 10-core Intel Core X-series processors are already out, the 12-core processor will be available starting on the 28th of August. The 14- to 18-core processors will be available starting on September 25th.
