Instagram's new guide helps parents protect teenage users

Instagram has published a new parents guide that helps adults manage their teen's use of the platform. The guide covers three primary topics, including managing user privacy, interactions on the platform, and time spent on the app. The guide helps parents understand how the tools on the app work and how to talk to their teens about use of the service.READ: Instagram shopping app leaks as major e-commerce project

"We know that as a parent it may be hard to understand the changing digital landscape and what your kids are doing online," Instagram says on its guide.

"We're here to fill you in on what Instagram is all about, give you some conversation starters for you and your teen, and show you some of the tools that are in place to keep your teen safe."

The guide is created for parents with teens on the platform, parents who may not fully understand Instagram or know how to start a conversation about safety and usage. "We want to make sure you feel equipped with the tools you need to start the dialogue," Instagram says in its guide.

The guide includes information on privacy, managing comments, blocking interactions from unwanted users, filtering comments, blocking other accounts, viewing user activity, muting push notifications, setting up daily reminders, and more. There's also a glossary to help parents understand terminology and questions to help parents open conversations with their kids.
