Hyundai SEVEN Concept Gallery
Auto shows are nothing without faintly-ridiculous concepts, and Hyundai clearly understood the assignment. The Hyundai SEVEN Concept checks off all the must-haves for an eye-catching prototype: pillarless coach doors, a mass of LED lighting, and an interior that looks more like a boutique hotel room than the inside of an SUV. The LA Auto Show 2021 showcase even includes UV sterilization and air filtration, to help keep those inside healthier.
Underneath it all, though, is something a little more familiar. The SEVEN Concept is based on Hyundai's E-GMP platform, an all-electric architecture that the automaker plans to use for a whole range of IONIQ EVs. Here, the SEVEN Concept would have a 350 kW DC fast charging system, plus a big enough battery for 300+ miles of driving.
It's not hard to see how this could all be spun into a seven-seater all-electric SUV, which could launch as the IONIQ 7. Hyundai is playing that possibility close to its collective chest, but there's certainly a gap in the market for three-row EVs.
