Huawei Honor 8 Pro, a.k.a. Honor V9, seen in Russia

A rose by any other name, as the quote goes. Huawei sub-brand is not above using different names for the same phones that are available in different markets, whether to keep things exciting or confusing. Case in point is the Honor 8 Pro, which, by name, seems to take after the Honor 8 and Honor 8 Lite. But you won't be blamed if it looks and sounds familiar, because it is pretty much the same Honor V9 that was launched in China late last month.

Not that consumers would have to complain. In truth, the Honor 8 Pro, or Honor V9 if you will, seems poised to compete against the Huawei P10 or even the P10 Plus, to some extent. Inside this all-metal iPhone look-alike is a Kirin 960, the latest Huawei chip, 6 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage. On top you have a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 QHD screen that is almost flushed to the sides.

Flip it over and you see something rare in an Honor phone: dual cameras. There are two 12 megapixel sensors on that side, though it doesn't seem to have any other special feature to speak of. Not even a mention of OIS. The front camera, by the way, is a decent 8 megapixel shooter. The Honor 8 Pro runs Android 7.0 out of the box, fortunately, topped with Huawei's EMUI 5.1 UX.

With that much going for it, the Honor 8 Pro/Honor V9 might distinguish itself with its price tag. In China, the Honor V9 went for around $435, which is on par with mid-range phones. You are, however, getting specs close to a premium handset.

While the Honor 8 Pro has been spotted in Huawei's Russian website, there is still no information when it will actually start selling. There's also no sign yet that it will be expanding to other markets, but chances are high if it is indeed hitting Russian stores.
