Google Docs Is Down, It's Not Just You
Google Drive is down, Google Docs is down, and a couple of other services from Google are down at the moment, too. Google's own Service Outage reports suggest that many users aren't able to properly access Google Sheets or Google Slides, either. The current status of the Google Classroom system is also experiencing a Service Disruption here on January 27, 2020.
Google's email system Gmail was reported having issues overnight as well, but it does not appear that the Google Suite services above were connected to the down-time for Gmail starting at 1:33 PM EST Sunday. That down-time seemed paired with the event in which the official Google homepage failed to load, reported since around 1:17PM EST, according to the team at DownDetector.com on Sunday.
Most issues appeared reported inside North America, with concentrations in the most obvious locations – Southern California, New York, western Texas, and Washington. It would appear that Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Portland also had concentrated reports of down-time or general issues with Google Drive and/or Google Docs this morning.
Google Drive reports were officially acknowledged by Google at 12:30 PM Pacific Time, January 27, 2020. They reported in Service Details on Google's official App Status board that "We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive. We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are unable to access Google Drive."
As of 12:43PM Pacific Time, Google support reported that "Google Drive service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users within the next 1 hours. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change."
UPDATE: The latest report was made at 12:46 PM Pacific Time, on January 27, 2020. At that time, Google reported "The problem with Google Drive should be resolved." They also included a note: "We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better."
