GM Owners Can Order Coffee And More From Their Dash
Normally ordering your morning coffee from your car involves you sitting in the drive-thru waiting your turn. GM has a new feature that allows owners of certain vehicles to order coffee from their car with the tap of a button. This new feature marks the first commerce platform for the on-demand purchase of goods and services.
The coffee ordering button is in the Marketplace and you can do things there in addition to ordering food and drink. It also allows drivers to find the closest gas station and make dinner reservations. The marketplace will be offered for eligible Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles.
A shop button is also included allowing for instance purchasing of things like Wi-Fi data an to get discounts on oil changes or GM accessories. These features work via the embedded 4G LTE connectivity in some 2017 and 2018 GM cars. Marketplace will be offered for millions of existing 2017 and 2018 model cars, trucks, and crossovers with compatible infotainment systems. Which vehicles and infotainment systems are compatible is unannounced.
Participating vendors in Marketplace include Starbucks, GM, Dunkin' Donuts, Wingstop, TGI Fridays, Shell, ExxonMobil, Priceline.com, Parkopedia, Applebee's, IHP, and delivery.com. GM says that it is working with merchants to integrate their content as part of the Marketplace ecosystem.
GM is working with three firms to do this including Xevo, Conversable, and Sionic Mobil. GM notes that merchants who want to participate can contact one of those three partners to be included.
