Galaxy S8 Update Will Hopefully Fix Red Tinted Displays

The Galaxy S8 goes into wide release around the world today, and while many reviews have been very positive, there's still at least one early issue to look out for. Korea has had the phone since the beginning of the week, and some consumers in that region are reporting a reddish tint to their phone's display. At first, Samsung tried to fix the problem by telling users to adjust their display setting, but that recommendation doesn't seem to helping.

With that in mind, Samsung will release a software update next week with the hope of fixing this issue. According to The Investor, the update will attempt to "optimize the color balance of the screen," hopefully solving the problem for good. An industry source originally alerted The Investor to the incoming patch, reports which Samsung later confirmed.

Samsung said that it doesn't have a solid launch date for this update yet, but the latest it will come is sometime next week. Just as well, the scale of this patch is unclear at the moment. The Investor's write up makes it sound like this update will only launch in Korea at first. It makes sense that Samsung would eventually roll it out on a global scale, since handsets around the world will presumably have red tint problems.

It's hard to tell if this is a software issue or an issue with manufacturing. If it's the latter, then Samsung's patches probably won't do much and it could find itself on the wrong end of an exchange program once again.

We'll just have to wait and see if Samsung's solution ends up working. One thing is for sure: with these reports circulating for a few days now, there are a lot of people who will be looking for reddish tints in their displays when they pick up their Galaxy S8 today.
