Galaxy J6, J8 Bring Infinity Display Down The Line

Once upon a time, it was easy to tell smartphone tiers apart simply by looking at them. Premium phones looked luxurious while less expensive ones looked, well, cheap. Samsung, however, is seemingly closing that gap just a bit. At least when viewed from the front, the new Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 look deceptively expensive, at least from the front, with their fancy nearly bezel-less Infinity Displays. And with dual cameras on the back, they pretty much give consumers fewer reasons to break their bank accounts over a Galaxy S9.

Of course, you do get what you pay for. If you need a monster of a smartphone when it comes to performance, these just won't do. The Galaxy J6 runs on an Exynos 7 while the Galaxy J8 goes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, both marked for the lower end of the mid-range tier. They do have 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of storage, so it's not a complete loss. And the 3,000 mAh and 3,500 mAh batteries of the Galaxy J6 and J8, respectively are on par or even better than the Galaxy S9 and S9+.

When it comes to bang for buck, at least for a big brand, Samsung tries not to disappoint too much. The Galaxy J6 flaunts a 5.6-inch screen while the Galaxy J8 has a bigger 6-incher. Both of them Super AMOLED and both with HD+ resolutions. No curved edges but some might consider that a plus rather than a flaw.

Just like the difference between the Galaxy S9 and S9+, the Galaxy J6 and J8 also have different camera setups. The Galaxy J6 gets a lonesome 13 megapixel f/1.9 sensor on its back while the Galaxy J8 plays with two, on 16 megapixel f/1.7 and one 5 megapixel f/1.9. Not completely high-end but hopefully serviceable for the price.

As for that price, the Galaxy J6 with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage will sell for 13,990 INR ($205) while the Galaxy J8 will go for 18,990 INR ($280). Along with the earlier announced Galaxy A6 and A6+, these four make up Samsung's 2018 mid-range lineup for India and, eventually, other markets as well.
